SURGERY UPDATE 11/13/16

Keaton is continuing to progress in his recovery. Last night his spurts of sleep lasted 1-2 hours at a time compared to the 20/30 minute intervals on Friday night. This was a great benefit to him and his parents. All three of them looked more rested today. I got to the hospital around 11:30 this morning. I walk in to the view of Erika's wet hair and a Cheeto stained little boy. 1. This means Erika has showered! And 2. Keaton is finally eating. I have lunch in hand for the rest of us (Erika, Kory, Keaton, Sweetie and PawPaw) as we all begin to mingle. I sit next to the little guy and continue to feed him his puffs, while me and the guys try to catch the last 15 minutes of NFL Today. Every time Sweetie walks pass the TV, she turns down the volume. In return, Kory turns it up each time she moves on to something else. Sweetie and Erika are both out of the room long enough for me to confirm that we will be able to watch the Texans game. As an avid sports fan, my weekends in the fall consists of football. You can only watch so many Lifetime movies. At least in my opinion ... Thankfully, Kory verifies that yes, we will be watching the game. The ladies return and we get lunch started. I sit next to Keaton and he continues chowing down on Cheetos and juice. His personality is back! Thank you Lord! The game starts and its musical chairs throughout the game. The Texans won, but it wasn't pretty. There was a stint of 20-30 minutes where mostly everyone in the room was asleep. I personally felt like Erika and Kory's simultaneous snoring was quite comical. Every once in a while I'd catch Keaton glance at them and roll his eyes. The game came and went. Nurses came and went. Aids came and went. Not too long after the game, Sweetie and PawPaw left to get the baby. Great. It's just me and Keaton left with these yahoo's. A few minutes later, the nurse came in and we moved Keaton to sit on the couch. He and I sat there for about 45 minutes. We finished his PB&J, looked at pictures, and watched old videos that I have saved on my phone.

My parents and sister came to visit around 5:00 this evening. I switched places with Jenn and she read Keaton a book that they had brought for him. The seven of us sat and visited for a while. Keaton had been sitting up for an hour and a half at this point. All on his own! He was starting to get a little fussy and began rubbing his eyes. Time to return him to his bed that his dad had so graciously been keeping warm. Keaton's nurse was stuck in another patient's room for a little while, so another nurse came in to help. Not that it was her fault but since she was a new face and hadn't been working with Keaton, that transfer was a little more difficult and stressful than it needed to be. One more nurse for back up, a few tears, and an anxious mom, we were okay. Keaton settled pretty quickly once everyone was out of the room and we turned the lights down. Kory and Erika ran across the street to grab something for dinner as I sat with my boy. Erika and Kory returned shortly after. I almost had him asleep but once he saw them, he was awake. Kory and Erika, best of luck tonight and tomorrow. Thank you for letting me hang with y'all this weekend. Bubba, you got this! A few more days and you'll be ready to go home. Hang in there. I'll see you tomorrow. Hugs and kisses, Kimmy
