A Pretty Runner, A Cute Rider and A Wobbly Wheel…

After our days events, I asked Erika to write a blog with her own viewpoints on Bridge Fest. Here is her recap:

I snap a few pics at the starting line and then race myself down the running path to be on the side lines to see Kim and Keaton pass. The fog horn blows and they are off. Kim breaking through the crowd to get some distance and I see it…the front wheel on the jogging stroller. Oh my goodness, the wheel is about to come off, I think to myself. As they pass by, I try to follow on the sidelines just to make sure they both are okay and this wobbly wheel isn’t “wheely” an issue. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

She nods me off and I’m assured they are good to go. Probably a bumpy ride for Keaton, but it’s like his very own roller coaster. I know he enjoyed every minute of that race. Kim and Keaton finished out in second place! I was one proud Mom and friend to say the least. I was also truly grateful that someone would make Keaton a priority and run him around in the freezing cold on a Saturday.

His medal was awarded and immediately the conversation went to the wobbly wheel. After a little investigation, I realized that the front wheel gets locked down when you run with a jogging stroller. Uh, who knew?! I guess if I would have ever used the “jogging” stroller to actually “jog,” I would have been a little more prepared for the race. At least I’ll be ready for next year…wink, wink!

After the YMCA race, Kim decided to brave the day with the 3 of us…me, Keaton & Kason. This is a tall task for any adult, especially one that just ran a half mile special needs race and a 5K of her own. Anyhow, she took on the challenge. The adventure started with an hour drive from Kingwood to Sugar Land. Once in Sugar Land, we decided to eat lunch at Willies. I figured this is a pretty forgiving crowd so my youngest shouldn’t get us in too much trouble here. WRONG! This kid growled and yelled the entire time for any food we could possible cram down his throat. He frowned at the broccoli, but definitely swooned over the thought of a french fry. Not happening, sorry.

Lunch finished…thank goodness! Next, San Jac Baseball at the Skeeters field in Sugar Land. We arrive. Unpack the back of my car to grab the two umbrella strollers. At this point, we look like homeless people living out of the car. I kept thinking I hope no one can see this monstrosity. Kids loaded into strollers, snacks packed…here we go. Upon entry, that will be $20, a player politely informs us. What??!!

Funny, my husband forget to mention, I had to pay to get into this shindig. Kim pulls out her wallet and holds up $12. Oh, so one adult, two kids and a quarter of the other adult can go in. Obviously, not happening. Luckily the player was from San Jac so I named dropped and go us in for free. Whooohooo! Baseball and snacks for the next hour and half wasn’t too bad. Kason finished the sleeve of wheat puffs, but it kept him happy for the most part. Keaton and Kim snuggled under a blanket and just chilled.

While the day was a long one, so many memories were made in those 8 hours. I am thankful Kim and Keaton got share one of the best memories from the day!

Thanks Kim for all you do for the Koehler’s. We are beyond blessed to have you in our lives.
